The Sheep Ranch at Bandon Dunes is open!

Grand Opening June 1, 2020

Originally designed by Tom Doak and updated for the past year by Coore & Crenshaw, the course is now open for play.

John played the Sheep Ranch a few times over the last 10 years or so. Locals would pay green fees at a golf  gear supply shop in town and arrangements were made to meet someone at the gate who would let you in to play. Non-locals could play too, if you knew where to go to make your tee time, or of course if you had booked your golf package with Flannagan's Golf Tours.

We are very excited to see and play the new course. It should be spectacular, just like all the courses at Bandon Dunes golf resort.

5 of my favorite things on a Pebble Beach golf vacation (other than golf at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill or the Links at Spanish Bay)

I visited Kingsbarns Golf Linksand the nearby Kingsbarns Distilleryin late October. I didn't get to play the course this time, but I did enjoy some tastings.

The distillery offers tastings, tours and even a gin school where you can make your own bottled gin, flavored as you like, to take home. The tour was interesting, rich in history and quite entertaining.  I did the shorter tour, about 30 minutes.

The highlight of this visit however was hearing from David Malcolm at Kingsbarns Golf Links. I highly recommend his 15-20 minute talk! David is extremely knowledgeable and a fantastic presenter of history. Among other things, he explained the history of medals and the Claret Jug.   If you're interested, let us know and we will pre-arrange some time with David for you and your party.

Did you know that the Old Course St Andrews is closed on Sundays to golf but open to the public to walk and enjoy? It's true and it's brilliant.

I arrived in St Andrews on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Here is a photo from that afternoon, taken by my new Swedish friend, Sanna.  What a perfect Fall day, crisp with no wind or rain! With weather like that, it was a little hard to believe I was in Scotland....except for the fact that I was walking on the 18th fairway of the Home of Golf.
